Role of the School Counselor
 

Parents, the press, administrators and the general public often wonder just what it is that school counselors do on a daily basis. Gone are the days of school counselors sitting in their office simply handing out college applications, making schedule changes for students who want to drop a class or meeting with the troublemakers in the school. Today's school counselors are vital members of the education team. They help all students in the areas of academic achievement, personal/social development and career development, ensuring today's students become the productive, well-adjusted adults of tomorrow.

Meet our Guidance Counselor Lafawndra Stith-Russell

It is my pleasure to serve as the counselor of J. L. Francis Elementary School. It is both an honor and a privilege to help guide and shape our future leaders along their journey to adulthood.  I began my career in education in the beautiful city of Richmond, Virginia, and I am happy to be returning.

Education has always been a very important part of who I am, likewise, assisting others to reach their full potential, in healthy, and happy ways speaks to who I am on the most fundamental level.

I am a graduate of the John Tyler Community College, School of Liberal Arts, the Virginia Commonwealth University, School of Humanities and Sciences, where I earned a Bachelor of Science in Psychology, and the Virginia State University, School of Graduate Studies Research and Outreach, where I earned both a Master of Education in Special Education, and a Master of Education in Counselor Education. I am certified in the areas of Special Education PreK-12, School Counseling PreK-12.
